Peeking In with a Quick Update…

February 23, 2009

Henna is recovering nicely from her “desexing” as she prepares for Hawaii. I love this picture of her looking through the doggie door.

The “itty bittys” need to have their pictures taken for week 7 but my camera is recharging.

We heard from Echo in Holland and all is well and she is enjoying hiking in Switzerland right now with her family. Lucky Dog brings on a whole new meaning, hum?

Will be posting more soon!

Thank you Bonnie and Bruce..xxooxx

February 17, 2009

Dear Vicky and Jeff,

We wanted to thank you for having us over yesterday to visit the puppies and grown up doodles.  We had such a great time being able to get on the floor and get to know them all.  It is clear that they are all loving family pets.  They were so joyful in their greeting…it was like we’d known them forever instead of just meeting them.  Being smothered in doodle kisses is a very good thing.

It means a lot to us to be able to acquire our puppy from someone that shares the same values that we do…that a dog is a member of the family and not something to be stuck in a kennel.  Your dogs are just like our dogs living life along side you, going to the park, begging for treats, waiting for “daddy” to come home.  This is the type of environment we wanted our puppy to be raised in and this is the environment you provide.  It was important to us to find a breeder that raised their dogs and puppies in their home.  We are so happy to have found you!

We’re anxiously awaiting the day when Bosley can come home with us and I know that you will be there to answer any questions that may come up in our future.  Thank you, Bruce and Bonnie

It’s the end of the world as we know it..but we feel fine…

February 16, 2009

Week 6 is the beginning of the end. But it is all good!

Yes, this is the week they will probably be fully weaned by mom, as she is not enjoying their sharp puppy teeth. Most of the front teeth are in, and the back teeth are coming which leads to heavy teething. This means they are no longer a whelp but puppies. Yet one more step as they move through birth to the 8 week mark so quickly. Libby usually goes a little longer but I can tell she is starting to cut them off the milk bar. Food wise, they are getting wet food with some dry kibble that has been softened.

They are getting their nails trimmed today, have had their first shots and their first baths. They will also start lessons of pack order being corrected by both Libby and Belle as to who is the leader of the pack. If the weather holds there will be more outdoor exploring, and usually some doogie door lessons. They have three steps from the garage to the house mastered (going up, not down yet). But here is a first, with this litter for some reason; they love to play inside Libby’s crate. Most other litters play under the table. They still do the chase through the house but I think they prefer to stay closer to the kitchen.

They have moved to the puppy play pen for their nap time and time when I am gone. Soon, they will lose their whelp box and get a crate without a door to start their own early crate training. They climb in and out with each other and this helps them feel more comfortable in the crate if they are to fly. Also inside the puppy playpen, they are using the litter pan called ugodog almost from the start. I love that product!

I posted some video snippets on the online journal; although it was evening and dark. I have one camera that records little snippets but the quality is not that wonderful. I found it just in time as Bosley’s new family came over for a puppy fix. J It is a very good match, and Bosley will be very happy. He claimed his new dad yesterday, without question! I love to watch that match up for both puppy and owner. I read my puppies and read the owner and watch it unfold. Some of my puppy owners out there know what I mean, when I say no…this is not a match, but you ended up with the one that was right. I remember Roxies dad raising an eyebrow when Roxy picked him and I said, that’s your puppy. And, sure enough… it was, hum? J Yes, I know my puppies and am so happy when it all comes together and you all send me pictures and updates.

This morning both Curtie and Sunny are still waiting for their family.

Enjoy week 6 my puppies…

Marching Boldly through Week 5…

February 9, 2009

Week 5 we head into the puppy play pen! The whelp has outgrown their whelp box in the dining room and need room to run! Libby has begun to taper them off as they all have teeth now and they are eating puppy wet food now. They are busy exploring, running, mouthing and playing, all part of their pack development. This week will be more experiences; starting with their bold march into the 5th week with stepping outside and exploring new smells and textures. Chief, the whelps sire, has been visiting a friend as Belle had been in heat. He comes home this week as well to see his new prodigy for the first time.

I purchased some valentine pillows and stuffed animals for their first valentine photos that I want to include with their litter announcement so I will be working on that this week as well as more pictures and hopefully a few video snippets. Bandit has been renamed Bosley by his new family. As of this writing, both Sunny and Curtie are still available to the right family for adoption. All will be smart, loyal, loving healthy companions for the right family. They all carry the trait of being very attuned to “humans” that we breed for. From very healthy, tested lines…with Liberty’s intelligence and gentleness and Chief’s block and playful nature they are going to be great family members.

Sunny: Cuddlier.. Bonnie (Bosley’s new family mom) stated Sunny looks so serious in photos and not anything like her in person. I have to agree as I think she is camera shy…J She is outgoing and all have puppy energy but she will be more loving and the lap seeker of the group, a joyful little spirit with any easy going nature.

Curite: Playful Buddy..Loves to explore, be with you and whatever you’re doing he wants to be there too! He was the first to check out behind the couch, first to play with the ball, explore under the table and head out the door to the great outside. Happy camper…

Bandit/Bosley: The gentle giant love bug of the group, still a puppy with an old soulful look way he looks at you. He has been adopted:

Sydney Update

February 8, 2009

Below is an update that came by email late January. I am getting caught up an thought I had posted it for Sydney’s litter mates to have an update. My bad! Thank you Michelle for your wonderful emails and updates. It is fun watching them grow.

Hi Vicky,

How were your holidays?  Its hard to believe that January is half
over.  I’ll be honest though, with the deep freeze we are having here
in Madison (kids had to stay home from school with wind chills between
-35 and -45 degrees this morning) I am ready for January to be
over :)   It has become a lot easier to get Sydney in from the yard now
though.  She does her business a few feet from the back door and is
ready to come back in.  Poor thing out there, if only we could teach
her to use the toilet :)

xxxxxx I excluded part of email, that was personal in nature between Michelle and I xxxx

I wanted to send a picture of Sydney giving me the “are you almost
done on the computer” look.  Hope it makes you laugh,
Michelle xxx

(Sydney picture above with a late January email; below with a December email). Sydney and this little one are on the Libertylabradoodles.com home page. Fun to watch them both grow!

Leo’s First Haircut

February 7, 2009

Hi Vicky,

The new pups are so cute – getting so big.I didn’t realize you’d be steelers fans out there….anyway,..

(Vicky’s note: Jeff has been a part of the Steeler nation fan base since he could ride a bike. He is one of those fan-atics. J I married into the Steeler nation “do you promise to love, honor, cherish and support the Steelers in good times and bad…).

I thought you might enjoy this update.  Leo was getting very shaggy, so I brought him for “just a little off, he can’t see, and I like him shaggy, it’s just his coat is getting SOOO long it’s hard to brush”, which is NOT what I ended up with – I was soooo sad when I picked him up -he looked like a pampered fru-fru poodlie thing, my daughter saw him through the window and said “Mom, who’s dog is that?” (although the pictures are cute anyway).  They cut his face off, and didn’t trim his body at all, but cut his feet (so he had pointy tapered feet, eeeck). So I brought him back today to be trimmed a little, since his face has to grow back in anyway, I might as well get his first trim over with.  I showed them pictures of how he looked when he got there, and said “See, this is how I like him, just a little tiny bit shorter……”

Here are some pictures, before, take 1, and take 2.

Both times the groomer couldn’t get over how good he is, and how “mature” for a just about 6 month old pup.  She kept saying what a great puppy we got.  I told her I know…Otherwise he’s doing great, he happens to LOVE the FREEZING weather, the opposite of me, unfortunately -

Happy doodling,

Xxx

(My reply: for his first haircut, which is always the hardest, you did very well. Don’t worry, this is the age you want to cut it short as he will be losing his puppy coat and you have to do lots of brushing. His sister, Henna, we already cut short. Echo, his other sister is long and uncut. By the way, Echo arrived in the Netherlands~I will post that next. Thanks for the updates, I love sharing them with the others!). xx
